City of Austin Davenport Lift Station
Description:
Upon the annexation of Davenport Ranch, the City of Austin undertook the management of the wastewater treatment plant serving the west Austin area on an interim basis. The City's plan is to build a new lift station to pump the wastewater to a large wastewater tunnel that flows to one of the City's major plants. The City hired LAN to design the lift station and the gravity influent line as well as manage the demolition of the existing treatment plant.
LAN's preliminary engineering report investigated the demolition of the existing wastewater treatment plant; an environmental investigation was also conducted before and after demolition. LAN also performed the:
• Design of a gravity sewer from the WWTP to the site of the new lift station
• Design of the new lift station
• Transient hydraulic analysis of the force main
• Investigation of the capacity of two small lift stations in the Davenport Ranch subdivision
After the preliminary engineering, LAN prepared plans and specifications for the improvements to be constructed in two separate projects. Plans included:
• Site civil drawings and specifications
• Gravity sewer plan and profile drawings
• Erosion control drawings and specifications
• Structural drawings and specifications
• Mechanical drawings and specifications
• Electrical/Control drawings and specifications
• Demolition drawings and specifications
• Landscape drawings and specifications
During the construction phase LAN provides periodic site visits and shop drawing reviews in addition to answering contractor questions and attending regular meetings with the client and contractor. The construction of the Davenport Lift Station is expected to be complete in January 2009. LAN will also provide startup services after the construction of the lift station.
