Ft. Hood Army Airfield Deployment Center
Fort Hood, Texas
Description:
LAN provided professional architectural and engineering design services for the construction of an $18M project to upgrade the deployment capabilities of Robert Gray Army Airfield at the Fort Hood Army Base in Killeen, Texas, in preparation for intensive troop deployment activities for support of the US War on Terror.
LAN consolidated two existing buildings to form a state-of-the-art troop processing and deployment center and a pallet storage warehouse for the processing of troop support equipment. The new deployment facility is used to manifest, plan and deploy, and process upon return, up to 900 soldiers. One of the goals for this project was to increase the amount of time that soldiers are able to spend with family members prior to deployment. With the improvements and additions finally complete, the staff is equipped with the best technology around to make the missions of Fort Hood soldiers as safe and effective as possible. The facility will allow the manifesting process to begin while receiving returning troops simultaneously. This flexibility has provided increased efficiency in the deployment process. With the successful completion of this project, our soldiers are able to spend up to an additional two hours with their loved ones.
LAN worked closely with the various user groups and continually value engineered the project so that the final MCACES engineer's opinion of probable construction cost provided to the government was within three percent of the winning bid. This included designing the entire project to meet the DoD Antiterrorism requirements and meeting the requirements for a Bronze SPiRiT designation.
