Julie Hastings, PEProject Manager
Julie Hastings is currently the team leader for LAN Austin’s Utility and GIS Team. She has over 10 years of project engineering and project management of civil engineering design experience. In January of 2008, she was selected as the 2008 Young Engineer of the Year by the Travis Chapter of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers (TSPE). Julie has a Bachelor of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Tennessee Technological University and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin.
Her professional experience involves design of engineering plans and specifications for municipal infrastructure projects, construction cost estimation, and construction management services. Most of this experience has involved CIP projects in developed, highly congested areas within rights-of-way. Recently, Julie served as the Project Manager for the City of Austin Pedestrian Master Plan and the Lamar Boulevard Water and Wastewater Line Design, Sidewalk Design, and Street Reconstruction. Julie received an Individual Achievement Award from the City of Austin, presented by Mayor Will Wynn, for her work on Lamar Boulevard. The project also received the Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement Award from the Texas section of ASCE presented at the 2007 State Meeting.
As a Professional Engineer, Julie is avidly involved in the community. She is currently the Past President of the Travis TSPE, leading the organization as its President in 2007. A founding Board Member of the Engineers Without Borders chapter in Austin, TX, she has also presented technical papers at the APA Texas State Conference and the APWA National Congress.
Julie is also a new mother; she celebrated the birth of her first child, Miller Dawkins, in 2007 shortly after completing her MBA. Her son, as she herself will admit, is her proudest achievement. In addition to her family, she is an active volunteer for the Town Lake Animal Center and the Divine Canines Therapy Group.
Dorinda MeeksCAD Analyst
Since joining LAN as a CAD Analyst, Dorinda Meeks has taken on several roles within LAN's Information Technology (IT) group. Currently, she manages the LAN intranet, IntraLAN, and works directly with business groups to develop internet technology for clients.
Her career growth within LAN has been driven by her desire to further expand her skills into web design and project management. Taking it upon herself to learn Dreamweaver and web design principles, Dorinda now works directly with clients and LAN team members to develop project websites to share information with stakeholders. In 2008 she is planning to use her skills to completely redesign the IntraLAN as a more user-friendly resource for employees companywide.
She also manages the onsite construction office startup for new project sites including the network connections, telephones, and office facilities. Additionally, Dorinda is a driving force for cross-training among the IT group. Her ability to learn quickly is an asset to the firm. As she has said, "I have grown so much being a part of LAN and I don't think I would have had so many experiences anywhere else."
Dorinda graduated from Devry University in Columbus, OH with a B.S in Computer Engineering Technology. After graduation, she went to work for technology giant IBM. In 2005, she relocated to Houston, Texas where she began her career at LAN and later met her fiancé, Daniel. Dorinda and Daniel plan to be married in the spring of 2008.
James HumbleSenior Project Coordinator
James Humble, Senior Project Coordinator, joined LAN in Dallas more than 15 years ago as a part of the Civil Business Group. A graduate of Prairie View A&M University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Technology, he has worked on several key projects including the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) General Engineering Contract and the Metro Solutions Phase 1 and 2 Southeast Line in Houston.
As the manager of CAD services for LAN's team for the Metro Southeast Line, James worked with 14 subcontractors to develop the drawings for approximately seven miles of urban light rail. He has been a key member of the Metro team for the length of the project. Prior to this project, James developed the CAD standards for LAN's Program Management Support Consultant contract for the Capital Metropolitan Transit Authority in Austin.
James started his career with LAN as a CAD Operator and he has really enjoyed the opportunity to work in different offices with a variety of people on important projects. One of his favorite projects is the South Oak Cliff Bus Operating Facility for DART because, as the draftsman for the entire project, he drew the first line of the first drawing and completed the last line of the final drawing.
In addition to his project work, James will be preparing for the exam from the American Society for Quality (ASQ) to become a Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence in 2008. With the new year, he is returning to LAN's Dallas office after working with the Metro project in Houston for much of 2007.
