Construction is under way in Austin, Texas, on two toll lanes—one in each direction—on Texas State Highway 71 to ease congestion on the highly travelled route, providing enhanced connections from S.H. 130 and the city to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
The population of Austin is growing dramatically—up to more than 900,000 residents this year from 656,562 in 2000. Approximately 70,000 vehicles per day travel S.H. 71, making it one of the more congested corridors in the area. The growing population is expected to drive traffic volume to more than 105,000 vehicles per day in just 20 years.
